What's he looking for? And what would he prefer between those mandibles? Looks like it could hold a small dog. I'm bringing mine inside until its safe out there.

He looks ready to latch on to an unsuspecting co-worker's earlobe. Would you get in trouble for that?

Very cool customer. Nice photo.

All I got on my screen door was a flock of mosquitoes.

Have a great day,
Troy

Mark- I'm not sure whether this gets to the Pacific Northwest or not.

cedrorum- I'll try to remember to send you a larger format version it's on my other computer).

Marvin- Merci.

Pablo-Kind of neutral. The larvae eat rotting wood in dead stumps. The adults eat sap.

tr- He was attracted to the porch light.

tr and thingfish- According to my reference, the mandibles are not as formidable as they apear in this specis, which is described as only being able to give a mild pinch. I haven't been especially motivated to do the experiment.

Troy- Thanks. That's usually all I get to- hough at the moment I'm blogging on my screened porch with the black light on. I frequently get interesting stuff that way.

Gallicissa- Thanks. These are reasonably frequent cisitors to my place when I blacklight. I'll try to get that pose If I can manage it.

Steven and Aisha - Thanks and welcome to the Tapestry.

At the very least that would have gotten an "OMG!" out of me.

Specially in the morn.
